The Women’s PNWCA playdowns were held February 21-24, at Granite Curling Club in Seattle.

Five teams competed, with Team Mariano (Sheila Mariano, Emily Good, Jiyoung Lee, Mijung Wick) claiming the championship title. With their victory, the team will compete at the 2026 U.S. Club National Championships, to be held March 25-29, 2026, in Chaska, MN.

The Men’s PNWCA playdowns were held February 21-24, at Granite Curling Club in Seattle.

Seven teams competed, with Team Bond (Chris Bond, Sam Galey, Nicholas Pleasants, Thorsten Frank) claiming the championship title. With their victory, the team will compete at the 2026 U.S. Club National Championships, to be held March 25-29, 2026, in Chaska, MN.

Six teams competed in the PNWCA Mixed Fours Playdowns, held February 6–8, 2026, at Evergreen Curling Club in Portland, Oregon.

Team Irvin claimed the championship title, earning a berth to the 2026 USA Curling Mixed Fours National Championship, which will be held April 15–19, 2026, at Denver Curling Club.

After a strong showing in round robin play, Team Irvin (Bruce Irvin, Lily Irvin, Brad Blyth, Maya Horten) advanced with a 4–1 record and met Team Sherry (Christopher Sherry, Kaitie Kovach, Sam Sparks, Shannon Brown) of Granite Curling Club in the final.

On November 18th – 20th, 12 teams competed in PNWCA’s 3rd annual 5-and-Under Championship and Granite Curling Club of Seattle.  This year, an event-record 10 teams from PNWCA member-clubs participated in the event, and teams from the region won both the A and B sides.

In contrast to most 5-and Under Nationals qualifying events, PNWCA’s 5-and-Under Championship is run as a playdown, featuring pre-event and pregame practices, DSCs to decide hammer, and pool play. This gives teams competing in the event a chance to experience the type of environment they’ll see at the national event and in the future at any other regional playdowns.

The A event featured an all GCC final, with team McLaughlin defeating team Kopka 7-5 in 8 ends. Congratulations to Matt McLaughlin, Suz McLaughlin, Sonja Wesche, and Thorsten Frank who will all be making their first appearance at the National event.

The B event featured an all Evergreen final, with team Rockett defeating team Bada Bing Bada Broom 9-1 in 6 ends.  This is Matt Rockett’s second straight B event win, congratulations to him and Blake Bartusiak, Mat Iberg and Jennifer Hill.

Registration for PNWCA’s 3rd annual 5-Under Championship is opening this Friday, September 1st at 8am. We expect this to be a very popular event this season, so sign up early.

Team Larway won the 2022 PNWCA Senior Championship held Dec 26-28 at GCC. The rink of John Rasmussen, Ken Trask, Doug Kauffman, and Joel Larway (see picture) swept the round robin phase of the tournament.

Joel writes, “I’d start with a huge thank you to the ice crew for providing the ice for all of us. Also a thank you to the other teams. It was great to have five teams and many past GCC presidents as well. We know this event is for bragging rights only, but we will take full advantage of that. Phil Shryock showed us the way. We are so looking forward to being having the GCC host the US Senior Nationals this year and we have been working on peaking for that event. We hope many of the members will come out and support that event.”

The tournament was organized by the Pacific Northwest Curling Association and invited men and women from the Granite, Evergreen, Bend, and Inland Northwest Curling Clubs. While the regional tournament was not a qualifier for the 2023 USCA Men’s and Women’s Senior Nationals, it provided great preparation for the national event.
